Ir. Pooba Mahalingam

Ir Pooba Mahalingam is a professional engineer with over 30 years of experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing, and risk/insurance. He specializes in engineering risk management and property insurance, with expertise across oil & gas (onshore) and power generation and transmission facilities. Based in Singapore, he serves the region through Talent Asia Training & Consulting, providing risk surveys, training, and advisory services. He has extensive regional exposure across Southeast Asia and beyond, and is experienced in hydroelectric and thermal power operations. A former President of the Insurance Law Association Singapore (ILAS), he is a regular trainer and speaker at regional workshops, seminars, and conferences, delivering both in-person and virtual programs.

With over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, he began his career at AJB Bumiputera as an Executive Sales Agent (1992). He then joined Allianz Indonesia, serving until 2004 as a Senior Property & Engineering Underwriter, before continuing his career at ACA Insurance (2004–2008) as Senior Underwriter, overseeing the Jakarta regional office and national engineering portfolio. From 2008 to 2010, he worked with Hannover Re Bahrain, managing underwriting capacities of up to EUR 50 million with a PML of 30%. He subsequently held various senior management and advisory roles, including positions at Zurich Indonesia (2010), Asia Capital Re, Singapore (2011–2012), and as a Consultant at Swiss Re (2013–2014). He later served as ASEAN Head for a French-based company from 2014 to 2018, followed by a management role at BRIsma (2018–2020). Since then, he has acted as an Advisor to local insurance brokers, MITSUI Pana Harrison Reinsurance Broker (Singapore), and Project Investment PKF Singapore (since June 2021). He has also been appointed as a CII Ambassador (since 2018), Mediator/Arbiter at LAPS SJK (since 2022), Technical Advisor at Tugu Reasuransi (since 2024), and Consultant for ELBA MGA Lloyd’s.
